They say it doesn't exist
that it's not like
 
     eating a lemon—
 
pain, unlike  sour
cannot be called
upon command. It's
always
 
     a lemon
 
they use, as if all pain
is the same as this
one  citrus  fruit. We
 
grew them
     in our backyard.
The tree
     was full of them.
